Incredibly rude grilling, by Elizabeth Warren House Republican members of the subcommittee on Tuesday, raises two interesting questions: after a decade in which the usurers raped and robbed a house, home buyer and credit card holders, because the Republicans so intent on gutting the Agency, which would protect the American middle class, as sleazebags permanent? And secondly, because the Obama administration is so reluctant to appoint Warren Director of the Consumer Protection Act, the Office of Finance and the strength of a massive and very accessible to the public fight for a matter of vital economic importance: the corrupt nature predatory financial community?

Beats me. This seems to be a political no-brainer. Warren is a great interpreter of the public, with a strong personal story. "She scares the banks to death," one senator told me. And it is also an experienced operator: She hired Holly Petraeus, wife of the general to lead the fight against payday lenders that skeevy around military bases and take advantage of our young and financially unsophisticated, members of the military service. Furthermore, it is a battle without losing policy for the Democrats, who among us has not been offended, or torn, the fine print that accompanies each mortgage, credit cards and home equity loan?

But the president chose not to fight ... until now. There are two possible reasons for this. First, they tell me he thinks he has other more important fish to fry budget battles to be fought in Congress this year on its education, research and infrastructure programs preferred. The issue of financial regulation is considered too complex for public consumption. (I disagree: the issue is as clear as your credit rate before the interest of the card.) There's also the fact that Obama Wall Streety economic team did not like Warren a lot. It is a real concern: the desire to Obama to buy Wall Street conventional wisdom has been the biggest weakness of his presidency to date, and I think politically and materially.

Senator Al Franken and Rep. Barney Frank, both called the president to Warren a "recess appointment" that his appointment by the back door when Congress is in session. I disagree. Obama should appoint Warren through the front door, and turn it into a test of Republican ideology. I'd really like to know the members of Congress who say the media attention shines on them all why the public should not be defended against predatory lenders by a woman who has proved the stronger voice and more effective rights consumers in the Obama administration.
